In solidarity with the youth-led open sit-in ongoing in Nahr el Bared to end the military siege, we invite all activists, bloggers, and journalists for a night of discussion and learning with Palestinian activists.

Come with all your honest questions, meet residents from the camp, and talk to them personally to understand why it is imperative to end the military siege.

The evening includes a visual exhibition open from 5pm – 10pm, as well as a panel of conversation with the Palestinian activists starting 7:30pm.

تضامنا مع الشباب المعتصمين في مخيم نهر البارد ومطالبهم المشروعة المتمثلة بإنهاء الحكم العسكري في المخيم ووقف اعتماد نظام التصاريح، تدعو المجموعة النسوية جميع النشطاء والصحافيين والمهتمين للمشاركة في اليوم التضامني هذا. يتخلله عرض صور وأفلام قصيرة من الاعتصام وكذلك لقاء مع بعض الناشطين من المخيم القيمين على الاعتصام.

من المهم التعرف على وضع المخيم، وضع أهله، أين أصبح على صعيد إعادة الإعمار؟ هل ما تبثه وسائل الإعلام في نقلها للحدث من هناك صحيح؟ لماذا يجب فك الحصار العسكري؟…

تعالوا مع أسئلتكم من أجل نقاش صريح في شتى المسائل. ليكن يوما نتعرف فيه عن وضع اللاجئين الفلسطينيين في لبنان. ليكن يوما لنعيد التفكير في الكثير مما تشربناه من أفكار مسبقة ونمطية حول المخيمات واللاجئين في لبنان.

It’s no easy task to name women leaders in Lebanon. Marginalized in public spheres, in politics, in economics, in academia, we can name a few women as exceptions. Some of them will say there is no discrimination and that it’s up to women to prove themselves. Perhaps that the self-defense mechanism they use to advance in their careers despite sexism. Others know that the odds against women are often overwhelming and that we must challenge the structures that keep women out of the public life.

And so we’ve decided to go out there and find the women who inspire us. Terrific women leaders who have overcome social or familial or legal hardship to excel at what they do. We are looking for alternative forms of feminist leadership. What is leadership to you? A woman who inspires you? Someone you can identify with? Someone who built herself from scratch?

Is she a businesswoman? A filmmaker? A writer? A mother or grandmother? A professor? Your neighbor? Your friend?

We want to find 50 women leaders in Lebanon – not the ones already in the spotlight or in the mainstream but the ones people probably haven’t heard of – and we will feature them in a new book we’re publishing.

2-ارسل رسائل غدا للفايس بوك بالنص المكتوب ادناه ، لك مطلق الحرية فى استعمال كلمات من ابداعك.
3- فليكن غدا هو يوم مخصص للتغريد على تويتر بخصوص هذا الموضوع ،انشر على الحائط فى الفايس بوك وفى اى صفحات او مجموعات انت منضم اليها.

” انا مع انتفاضة المرأة فى العالم العربى…….” .
لقد فاضت صفحات الفايس بوك بصور لمئات الاشخاص مع صورلأنفسهم/ن رافعين لافتة مع عبارة “أنا مع انتفاضة المرأة في العالم العربي…” تشير الى سبب دعمهم/ن لانتفاضة المرأة في العالم العربي.
ومثل مئات الشابات و الشبان في جميع أنحاء العالم العربي و خارجه، نشرت دانا بقدونس صورتها في الحملة على الانترنت: صفحة “انتفاضة المرأة في العالم العربي” في الفيسبوك. ممسكة بجواز سفرها و رسالة مكتوبة بخط اليد مع نظرة متحدية رسمت على وجهها المكشوف، و تنص بجرأة “أنا مع انتفاضة المرأة في العالم العربي لأني كنت محرومة لمدة 20 سنة من أن يلامس الهواء جسدي و شعري”.. ولكن في صباح يوم 26 أكتوبر، 2012، تم إزالة الصورة دانا من الفيسبوك و تم منع المسئول عن ادارة حساب الصفحة التي قامت بنشر الصورة، من نشر أي شيء لمدة 24 ساعة. الفايس بوك ازال الصورة لتلقيهم شكاوى تدعى وتزعم ان الصورة بها محتوى مهين .
علاوة على ذلك، فقد تلقى المسؤولين على صفحة “انتفاضة المرأة في العالم العربي” تحذيرات من الفيسبوك بأنهم قد
وصلوا للحد الاقصى من عمليات الحجب المخزى مما يعرض حساباتهم للحظر لفترات تتراوح من يوم الى ثلاثين يوم.
وبناءا عليه ،نعلن تضامنا مع اخواتنا وزملائنا فى كل مكان ،المناضلين ضد الهيمنة الابوية الذكورية للفايس بوك والهجوم المعادى للمرأة والانحياز المشين مع السياسة الاصولية ضد حق المرأة فى الاختيار والحرية وحرية التعبير . وعلى عكس سياسة الفايس بوك وهؤلاء الذين يمارسون الضغوط ضد المرأة ،نحن نؤيد حق المرأة فى حرية الاختيار ، فى ان تختار ارتداء حجاب او لا ،ان تكون هى المسئولة عن جسدها، ان تكون لها الكلمة العليا على جسدها ،قراراتها وحقوقها
.
لذلك نطالب:
1-وضع حد فورى لجميع سياسات وممارسات الفايس بوك الابوية والمعادية للمرأة .
2- انهاء جميع اشكال الحجب الموضوعة حساب اصحاب تلك الصفحة بما فى ذلك اى تحذيرات بالاغلاق او الحجب وجهت اليها .
3-مطلوب بيان علنى وواضح من ادرة الفايسبوك بوك ،يعلن فيه سبب حذف الصورة واسباب حجب حساب المديرين لتلك الصفحة .

وهذه ليست المرة الاولى التى تقوم فيها ادارة الفايس بوك بمهاجمة حق المرأة فى التعبير عن نفسها على موقعهم ،وليست المرة الاولى التى يقوم فيها الفايس بوك بمضايقة الناشطات النسويات .
هذه ليست المرة الاولى التى نرفع فيها اصواتنا اعتراضا ،لقد طفح الكيل. اذا كان الفايس بوك يتعرض لضغوط خارجية لكى يقوم بتلك الممارسات ،فعليهم اعلان ذلك على الملا ، وسوف نقوم نحن بالتعامل مع تلك الضغوط.

فالتعرض لاحدنا ،يعتبر تعرض للجميع

برجاء نشر الخبر فيما تعرضت له صورة دانا ،شارك العمل ، ولتخصص هذا اليوم بارسال رسائل لادارة الفايس بوك مصحوبة بالنص المكتوب اعلاه وعبر عن غضبك واعتراضك فى الهجوم المستمر عن حرية المرأة فى التعبير.
كما نوجه الدعوة لكل المجموعات وصفحات ومجموعات الفايس بوك للانضمام الى دعوتنا وان يرسلوا لنا مايفيد برغبتهم فى وضع اسم مجموعتهم او صفحتهم وظهورها فى هذا الحدث.

WHAT HAPPENED:

“With the words “I’m with the uprising of women in the Arab world…” hundreds of people have been flooding a Facebook page with pictures of themselves holding up a sign that states WHY they support the uprising of women in the Arab world.

Like hundreds of young women and men all across the Arab world and beyond, Dana Bakdounis, posted her photo to the online campaign, The Uprising of Women in the Arab World’s Facebook page. Holding her passport and a hand-written message along with a defying stare on her unveiled face, she boldly states: “I’m with the uprising of women in the Arab world because for 20 years I was not allowed to feel wind in my hair and body.” But on the morning of October 26, 2012, Facebook removed Dana’s photo and has blocked the administrator of the Facebook page, who posted the photo, from posting anything for 24 hours. The picture was taken down by Facebook because the social network had received complaints. The photo was allegedly reported as being “insulting.”

Furthermore, the administrators of the page “the Uprising of Women in the Arab World” have been receiving “warning” from Facebook reaching the shameful extents of blocking their accounts for periods ranging from 1 to 30 days.

We stand in solidarity with our sisters and fellow fighters everywhere against the patriarchal hegemony on Facebook, the misogynist attack and the shameful siding with fundamentalist politics against a woman´s right to choice, to her body, to her freedom of expression. Unlike Facebook and those putting “pressure”, we support women´s right to choice, to wear the veil or not, to be the one who decides over her body. Her body, her right, her decision.

We thus demand:

1- An immediate end of all Facebook patriarchal and misogynist policies (and practices)
2- An immediate end to the block on the administrates´ accounts (and/or any “warnings” given to them or to the page)
3- A public statement from Facebook clarifying the reasons behind the removal of the photo, the reasons behind the “blocking” of administrators´ accounts.

This is not the first time Facebook attacks women´s freedom of expression on their website. This is not the first time Facebook harasses feminist activists. This is not the first time we raise our voices against this, and we are fed up! If Facebook is under “external pressure” to do all of this, make this “pressure” public and we will deal with it.

By laying a finger on one of us, you are laying a finger on all of us.

Please spread the news about Dana´s photo, share this action, and use the day to send messages to Facebook with the text above, and expressing your outrage at the continuous attack on women´s freedom of expression.”

Film nights are back!

We will be screening Machuca, this coming Wednesday at 6:30 PM at Nasawiya Cafe in Mar Mkhayel, first right after Pub Chaplin.

Description: Machuca is a 2004 Chilean film written and directed by Andrés Wood. Set in 1973 Santiago during Salvador Allende’s socialist government and shortly before General Augusto Pinochet’s military coup in 1973, the film tells the story of two friends, one of them the very poor Pedro Machuca who is integrated into the elite school of his friend Gonzalo Infante. The social integration project is headed by the director of the school, Father McEnroe.

The film is dedicated to Father Gerardo Whelan, C.S.C. who from 1969 to 1973 was the director of Colegio Saint George (Saint George’s College), the private English-language school in Santiago that the film’s director attended as a kid. Although Machuca performed pretty well in theaters in Chile, it did not have notable box-office success outside of Latin America.
