Our Body, Our Space, Our Struggle: How Alice Created Her Wonderland

On Saturday November 6, Nasawiya will be hosting a very interesting and unique workshop by Jana Nakhal entitled “Our Body, Our Space, Our Struggle: How Alice Created Her Wonderland”. The workshop is a whole day long one, starting 10 am and finishing at like 8:30 pm. It also involves fieldwork outside our lovely home.

This workshop is aimed at any woman who is interested in exploring women’s experience of space. Spaces and space manipulation is NOT limited to architects and engineers. Quoting Bernard Tschumi , ‘If writers could manipulate the structure of stories in the same way as they twist vocabulary and grammar”, why cant we do the same with space?

We aim at discovering our views and prejudices of space, experiment with them and expose the feminine in our spatial mapping and experience. As space is interpreted a personal but necessarily communal map is unearthed. That of the woman, the mother and the life-giver.

In a culture of the unspoken, women’s experience of space is necessarily the unseen, the disinherited map.
Isn’t the womb the first space?

The workshop is going to be on two phases and it is mandatory to stay for the whole period of the discussions and exercises
Phase 1 a whole day workshop from 10 to 6
Phase 2 a take-home exercise to be discussed in 1-2 weeks for 2 hours.

Things to bring: camera, laptop, scissors and glue and magazines (any)
